Exclusive Stream: Gruesome’s Fragments of Psyche EP

0

Death haven’t released an album in almost twenty years, but thankfully we’ve got Gruesome to carry the torch of death metal’s forebears.

Matt Harvey (also of Exhumed) has never been shy about admitting that Gruesome is a project in which he can express his love for his heroes in Death, and the band’s latest EP is no exception. As our own Axl Rosenberg pointed out when writing about the EP’s self-titled single, Gruesome seem to be following the evolutionary path of their heroes; Fragments of Psyche sees them evolving into Sound of Perseverance-era techy/proggy/experimental Death and away from the thrashier style of Scream Bloody Gore and Leprosy they explored on their first two albums.

Tl;dr version: it fucking rips. Matt Harvey basically IS Chuck Schuldiner embodied in 2017, if ever such a thing were possible.
