We’re all still reeling from the completely unexpected and tragic death of Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell last night. Members of the rock and metal community, including from Slipknot, Anthrax, Arch Enemy, Dream Theater and more (even Jimmy Page and Billy Idol!) have weighed in with their thoughts and memories of Chris publicly, as well; take a look at those here.

Meanwhile it seems that his death is being investigated as a suicide.

Detroit Police told Variety:

“At 12a.m. we received a 911 call from the MGM Grand Casino Hotel. It appears as though a family friend was checking up on Cornell at his wife’s request. He went to hotel and discovered him unresponsive on the bathroom floor. Police made the location with EMS, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

“At present our investigation is leaning toward the possibility of suicide, but we must wait for a medical report to determine the cause of death. At this time we cannot release too much information about what we observed in Cornell’s hotel room or what led us to this conclusion.”

According to Detroit radio station WXYZ:

“Police say Cornell’s wife called a family friend and asked him to check on his well-being. The friend forced opened the door and found Cornell on the bathroom floor, according to police. We’re told Cornell was pronounced dead on the scene.”

We will keep you updated as soon as we know more.

Continuing to send good vibes to Chris’s family, friends and bandmates, and Soundgarden fans around the world.
