Great news for fans of raw, poetic black metal: on July 21, Prophecy Productions will release To the Elements, the latest offering from Sun of the Sleepless! The solo project of Schwadorf (né Markus Stock), the mastermind behind Empyrium and The Vision Bleak, Sun of the Sleepless have been around for nearly twenty years — but despite a series of splits and EPs released during that time, To the Elements will actually be the project’s debut full-length. Admirers can rest assured, however, that it was worth the wait: To the Elements offers up cinematically atmospheric old school black metal the in vein of Emperor, early Ulver, and early Katatonia.

So needless to say, MetalSucks jumped at the chance to premiere the Elements track “In the Realm of the Bark.” Says Schwadorf of the track:

“‘In the Realm of the Bark’ is a song to the forest, very pagan and very anti-religious in its essence. The forest is my church and has always been, since I was a kid. I am loving the simplistic yet very deep and poetic lyrics of this one. Musically, the song is obviously influenced by Darkthrone (note the ‘Under a Funeral Moon’ vocal delay) and Ulver, but I also get some Nirvana and ‘Masters of Reality’ kind of vibes from it, strangely. This is probably the most catchy song on the album. A cross of Norwegian Black Metal, Grunge Rock and Folklore?”

If that description doesn’t make you wanna check out “In the Realm of the Bark” immediately, something is wrong with you.

Crank your speakers and jam the track below! Then go here to pre-order To the Elements in advance of its July 21 release! You’ll be glad ya did.
