Trans-Siberian Orchestra Announce Extensive Fall/Winter 2017 Tour

0

Last year’s Trans-Siberian Orchestra tour — timed to coincide with the holiday season, as usual — took in a whopping $56.9 million in just six weeks. The group now has TWO separate touring troupes so they can maximize revenue, and they ended up playing 61 shows over a 45-day span. That’s fucking bonkers.

Not long after that successful run, TSO founder Paul O’Neill died at just 61 years old. It was later revealed that he was killed by a combination of prescription medications including methadone, codeine, diazepam (generic Valium) and doxylamine (an antihistamine).” O’Neill was also suffering from “mild heart disease, hypertension and moderate hardening of the arteries.”

But the show must go on: TSO will continue without O’Neill at the helm this coming holiday season, having just announced another massive tour, again with two separate units. I don’t mean this as a slight to O’Neill, whose vision undoubtedly MADE Trans-Siberian Orchestra, but I don’t see his death affecting ticket sales much, if at all: TSO is a juggernaut capable of sustaining itself now, and the sorts of people who go to see these shows aren’t usually ones to get caught up in who’s involved — they’re there to hear holiday music, watch fireworks and experience the spectacle of it all.
