Scorpions and Megadeth Cancel Remainder of North American Tour

Scorpions and Megadeth have canceled the remainder of their current North American tour. The culprit: that old bastion of tour cancelations… vocal problems.

The good news is that approximately two-thirds of the tour has already played, with only the final five dates being scuttled. Unfortunately this tour came with quite a lot of teasing and fanfare, though, and fans in Arizona, Florida and Texas will surely be disappointed.

According to a statement posted by Scorpions on Facebook yesterday, vocalist Klaus Meine was advised by a throat specialist in Los Angeles to rest his vocal cords after being diagnosed with “severe laryngitis,” lest he risk permanent damage:

Scorpions Press Release..

The Scorpions regretfully announce that due to severe laryngitis, the remainder of the U.S. 2017 tour w/ Megadeth will be cancelled.

Klaus Meine has been advised by top throat specialist in Los Angeles to rest his voice. If he continues the tour, he could risk permanent vocal damage.

The band stated, “that they truly hate to disappoint our fans, and hope to come back to America soon, but this time we have no choice but to cancel.” – SCORPIONS

Vocal cord issues are delicate for any singer let alone one who’s 69 years old, so let’s cut the guy some slack for following doctor’s orders. Meine himself later chimed in with his own message to fans:

Dear Fans – it breaks my heart to let you down for the remaining shows in the U.S…..there will be better days…. Rock on….Klaus

With Scorpions having teased their last several runs as “farewell” tours, it’s unclear whether fans in the affected areas (or anyone) will have another chance to see Scorpions live… but we all know the fate of most “final” tours these days, so I’d certainly never say never.
