Black Label Society Parody Bob Dylan in Lyric Video for New Song “All That Once Shined”

Black Label Society have achieved a rare feat with their new single, “All That Once Shined”: they’ve made a lyric video you should actually watch even if you don’t care that much about the lyrics. Don’t get me wrong — I dig the song, which leans towards the Alice in Chains/old Sabbath side of BLS, not the keggers and guitar squeals BLS — but the lyric video is really just… mwah! Check it out:

If that seemed familiar — and it really ought to have seemed familiar — that’s because it’s a parody of Bob Dylan’s famous clip for “Subterranean Homesick Blues,” which was basically a lyric video before there was any such thing as lyric videos. Can the “All That Once Shined” video compete? On the one hand, BLS’ video doesn’t have Allen Ginsberg standing around in the background; on the other hand, Dylan’s video does not include a tea break or a chubby monk. So it’s a trade-off.

“All That Once Shined” will appear on Black Label Society’s new album, Grimmest Hits, which comes out January 19 on eOne. Pre-order it here. The band launches a tour with Corrosion of Conformity, Eyehategod, and Red Fang next month; get dates here.
