CONFIRMED: Robin Finck Has a Speaking Voice

Ernie Ball has this series of mini-documentaries called String Theory in which they profile various musicians who use their product, and the latest installment focuses entirely on Robin Finck, the longtime Nine Inch Nails/one-time Guns N’ Roses guitarist. This might not seem like a big deal, and to most people, I imagine, it won’t be. Finck isn’t the world’s most technical guitarist — he’ll never outshred Marty Friedman — but his feel is one-of-a-kind, and he’s an incredible stage performer. So he has a small, highly-dedicated following, and for those of us who are part of it, this profile video is a very big deal indeed.

Why? Because interviews with Finck are pretty rare. Somewhat understandable, given that his entire career has unfolded in the shadows of iconic frontmen. Still, instances of hearing Finck speak are so rare that if you Google ‘Robin Finck interview,’ the second thing to come up is a fan-made video called “Robin Finck talking,” which is just cut-together clips of, well, Robin Finck talking. The entire thing is less than three minutes long.

So, yeah. Listening to Finck talk for almost twelve minutes is a real pleasure.

Enjoy:
