Watch: Prophets of Rage Perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live

0

Prophets of Rage made a return to Jimmy Kimmel Live last night after making their television debut on his show in 2016, joining metal acts Metallica, Lamb of God and Mastodon in the late night public spotlight. The band performed some tracks from its members’ past peppered among songs from their debut album, culminating in a wonderful, funky, energized and electric spectacle. Thankfully, the exclusive off-air performances were released yesterday as well so we are able to bear witness to the entire set.

A highlight of the show is the band’s performance of “Legalize Me,” which comes at a time in our history where marijuana legalization is finally within attainable grasp but could also be swiftly ripped from our hands. We see more and more states adopting legalization laws, with California having officially legalized marijuana for recreational use on January 1st — but we also see Attorney General Jeff Sessions making strides to strike down those states and tear away legalization on a federal level. We see the matter sting so much more as still hundreds of thousands of black men are in prison serving life sentences for the act of possessing or distributing marijuana, while white men are making millions profiting off the same substance in states next door.

Check out the whole performance in its segmented form below.
