Kid Rock Sued by… Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus?!?!

Guys, I am not even trolling you: Kid Rock is being sued by the company that owns Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. And while you might assume the suit is the result of the circus wanting Rock to get back in his goddamn clown car where he belongs, it’s actually due to an alleged infringement of copyright. More specifically, the circus wants Rock to stop using the slogan “The Greatest Show on Earth,” which they say they own. Reports Reuters:

“Feld Entertainment, the production company that owns the longtime circus show and associated intellectual property, said in a lawsuit filed Friday that singer Robert Ritchie, known professionally as Kid Rock, and Live Nation Entertainment were infringing the circus’ ‘celebrated and valuable’ trademark by using the slogan on the singer’s upcoming U.S. concert tour without permission.

“The company, in the lawsuit filed on Friday in U.S. district court in Tampa, charged trademark dilution and infringement, unfair competition, injury to business reputation and unjust enrichment.”

Feld claims they have attempted to communicate with Rock and Live Nation in order to ask them to stop using the slogan, but have been ignored. In addition to legally preventing Rock and Live Nation from using ever using the phrase again, the suit seeks “to award Feld profits derived from the slogan’s use and triple unspecified damages.”

Funny enough, this is not the weirdest lawsuit with which Kid Rock has been involved: in 2014, a glass dildo in his possession was subpoenaed as part of a sexual harassment case against the Insane Clown Posse’s Psychopathic Records. Rock later claimed that he did not actually have said glass dildo.

Thanks: Bill M.
