Alameda County, CA Declares February 10th “Cliff Burton Day”
Metal’s treacherous journey down the path to respectability continues: following the fine example set by The Bronx’s Anthrax Day, Alameda County, CA has named this coming Saturday, February 10 CLIFF BURTON DAY! Not-incidentally, February 10th would have also been Cliff’s 56th birthday.
Metallica issued the following statement regarding this most joyous of occasions:
“IT’S OFFICIAL! The Board of Supervisors from Alameda County has just proclaimed February 10, 2018, which would have been Cliff’s 56th birthday, ‘Cliff Burton Day.’
“As many of you know, Cliff was born and raised in Castro Valley and was the reason we high-tailed it to the Bay Area back in ’83.
“Thanks to all of the fans who got behind this initiative and we’d like to send our appreciation and respect to all of you who continue to honor Cliff in your own personal ways. We love that he remains so revered.”
And here’s a photo of the fancy document that makes Cliff Burton Day officially official. Note that the Board of Supervisors for the County of Alameda were at some point made aware of people and things like Mike Bordin and Jim Martin from Faith No More, Metal Blade Records, and the legendary Metal Massacre II comp.
Surely, this is a milestone in metal history — nay, in all of American history, period. Before you know it, Slash will be on a stamp and kids will get off from school on Dave Mustaine’s birthday. Just kidding, no one important will ever care about Dave Mustaine’s birthday. Don’t tease Dave like that you guys, it’s not nice. He’s barely hanging on by a thread as it is.
