3/4ths of the Original Smashing Pumpkins Line-Up Is Reuniting

Rosenberg’s Rule of Reunions says that every band will reunite sooner or later… but as of today, I’m adding an addendum. And that addendum is this: there will be some kind of wrinkle. For either health reasons (Carcass’ Ken Owen) or financial reasons (Guns N’ Roses’ Izzy Stradlin) or drama reasons (Faith No More’s Jim Martin) or simply lack of availability (Alice in Chains’ Layne Staley), there’s usually someone missing.

In the case of the The Smashing Pumpkins, who have just confirmed their long-rumored reunion tour, that person is bassist D’arcy Wretzky. While guitarist/vocalist Billy Corgan, guitarist James Iha, and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin have all kissed and made nice, Wretzky still  does not have any nice things to say about Corgan. She’ll be replaced by Jeff Schroeder, who was previously doing Iha’s job. It seems unlikely that D’arcy’s absence will hurt the band’s ticket sales, but I’m sure some fans will feel let down.
