Check out Red Apollo’s Genre-Mashing New Record

0

German metallers Red Apollo have been melting faces for seven years, yet I had no idea they existed until about ten minutes ago. What’s up with that?

The band just released their third full-length, The Laurels of Serenity, last week, and while I haven’t heard any of their other music for comparison, I can say this record left a good first impression. The album has a very post-metal, progressive feel, clearly inspired by the bleak atmosphere of black metal.

Is it possible to be raw and refined at the same time? That’s exactly what The Laurels of Serenity seems to accomplish. It’s a sonic blissbath of modern production quality and aesthetic mixed with soul-crushing moments of sludgy-ness. The variety in this album is incredibly unique, and I have to give props to Red Apollo for being able to pull it off so well.

The music video for the record’s title track is down below, though I’d highly recommend listening to the full album here for the ultimate experience (you can purchase it there too).
