John Dolmayan on New System of a Down Music: “I don’t know if it’s ever gonna happen at this point.”

I’m starting to feel bad for the guys in System of a Down who can’t make it through a single interview without being asked about the status of new music despite staying active in a number of other projects.

System of a Down guitarist Daron Malakian said the following last week about new System of a Down music: “I couldn’t say ever, but as of right now, it’s not looking like we’re doing something together soon.”

Malakian also said this a month ago: “As of right now, System’s not making albums.”

Last December, Serj Tankian offered: “We still haven’t come eye to eye on how things should be done for us to be able to move forward with it.”

Still not convinced new SoaD music isn’t on the table for the near future? Here’s drummer John Dolmayan in a new interview with KROQ [transcribed by Blabbermouth]:

“That’s a really good question. It’s a complex question. You know I’m ready to go any time, and certain members of my band haven’t been able to make it work for themselves. And it’s one of those things where if you can’t get everybody to come together and do it, it just doesn’t happen.

“I don’t know if it’s ever gonna happen at this point. I don’t like saying that, but you’ve gotta live in the realm of reality. And anything we do outside of System is never gonna be anywhere close to System. System is the best thing that anybody in System will ever do. But we still do other things.”

Reading between the lines here, Dolmayan might as well be saying “Ain’t my fault… don’t ask me! Ask that other guy.” That other guy being bassist Shavo Odadjian…

KIDDING! It’s Serj. He just doesn’t seem that into it. And who are we to force him? He can continue to do a handful of System live dates every year and live off the money while pursuing other creative endeavors that are more personally fulfilling for him. I can’t fault the guy.

Meanwhile, SoaD’s debut album turns 20 this year. Feel old?
