Richard Patrick of Filter Releases Public Statement Urging Phil Anselmo and Rex Brown to Play a Pantera Reunion Show with Friends of Dimebag and Vinnie Paul

0

To my recollection, Richard Patrick, frontman of Filter (they did “Hey Man, Nice Shot”), was not and is not currently a good personal friend of any member of Pantera. However, Dick Pat is an insane attention whore who a) might have made up a threat to his life to get out of a show, b) tried to publicly shame a restaurant for not letting his drummer in, c) sent a bunch of nutter butter political texts to a dude from Shinedown, and d) likes to use more relevant bands for his own public displays of insanity. Which explains what I’m about to report:

Patrick has released a statement via his Facebook urging surviving Pantera members Phil Anselmo and Rex Brown to play a Pantera reunion show with friends of the late Abbott brothers, “Dimebag” Darrell and Vinnie Paul, performing in their stead. This, a little over two weeks after Vinnie Paul’s death.

Not mind-boggling enough for you? Here’s the statement:

“Statement!! For some reason… I just feel the need to say this!! Phil Anselmo!! Is the greatest singer in metal. He’s the sweetest dude ever. I love that guy!! I really hope he knows how much we all love him. He’s been vilified! He’s been misunderstood!! But I absolutely just need and want to say this!!!

Coming from my punk Industrial past when I heard and saw Phil I was completely blown away. I was not into metal at the time but… when I saw a shaved headed punk fronting Pantera I thought to myself thats one of mine… a punk, mean as fuck, super voiced, crushing mother fucker who is speaking to me. Trent Reznor Played me A Vulgar Display of Power and I was awe struck. I was never the same!!!

HAVING SAID THAT… (I know I’m stepping in it and it’s none of my business no one put me up top this) IT WOULD BE A CRIME AGAINST MUSIC TO NOT PUT PANTERA BACK TOGTHER WITH TRUSTED FRIENDS OF VIENIE PAUL, DIME BAG!!! Off the top of my head.. I would think guys like Zack Wylde and Ray Luizer. PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF MUSIC KNOW HOW MUCH I LOVED VINNIE AND DARREL!!

I KNOW IT’S RIGHT AFTER VINNIE‘S DEATH.. I WILL TAKE THE HEAT I UNDERSTAND I LOOK INSENSITIVE BUT FOR GOD SAKES PLEASE BRING PANTRA BACK TO US SO WE CAN CELEBRATE THE TRUE MEMORY OF VINNIE AND DARREL AS WELL AS SEE THE ABSOLUTE, MIND BLOWING, LIVING LEGENDS PHIL AND REX!!! SEARCH YOUR FEELINGS! YOU KNOW I’M RIGHT!! Nineties rock genius are dying way to fucking fast… For fuck sakes you were thinking it, I said!! #PANTERA”

There’s a lot to consider here, obviously–terrible timing, terrible ideas, a surprising display of what appears to be complete disregard for the feelings of the musicians he’s directing this to. But for now, let’s focus on the final line here:

For fuck sakes you were thinking it, I said!! #PANTERA”

I don’t know a single fucking person who in a million years thought that Phil and Rex should NOW, after Vinnie’s death, play a reunion show. In fact, every time I’ve written about the concept of a Pantera reunion while Vinnie was still alive, our readers have been quick as a flash to comment, “Why the fuck would anyone want that? Never gonna happen. Dimebag’s dead. Fuck you.”

Dick Pat, you’re not taking any heat, you’re not insensitive, you’re just a thirsty little asshole. You couldn’t wait a whole month after Vinnie Paul died to get your little statement out there, yelling for something no one wants in the most tweaker way possible.

Walk on home, boy. You’ve got that one song to play.

Ready this shmendrik’s post below if you’ve got nothing better to do.
