Norma Jean’s Cory Brandan on Band’s Shows: “#MAGA hats welcome. Hillary shirts welcome.”

0

Every Time I Die’s Keith Buckley ruffled a few feathers yesterday when he proclaimed on Twitter that MAGA hats and Trump supporters were not welcome at the band’s shows, saying, “My Band Doesn’t Need You. Nobody Does.”

Now Norma Jean frontman Cory Brandan has issued a politically charged proclamation of his own, seemingly in response to Buckley, striking a more all-inclusive tone:

“I don’t give a shit who comes to our shows. #MAGA hats welcome. Hillary shirts welcome. Gay pride flags. Pentagrams. Upside down crosses. …Crosses? Uh, duck dynasty shirts? Idk, all that crap. Bring all the offensive things.”

On one hand, I get it. There’s something to be said for being all-inclusive: music is the great uniter, right? Put your differences aside and come party with us. It’s also worth pointing out that Norma Jean’s fanbase might have a higher percentage of Trump supporters than Every Time I Die’s given their Christian past, but that’s just speculation, and I can’t say whether or not that calculus was in Cory’s head when he made the above statement (although he certainly makes every effort to be ALL inclusive, name-checking Hillary and gay pride as well).

On the other hand: fuck that. Buckley is simply being intolerant of intolerant people, and I back that: I wouldn’t want people who believe all Mexicans are criminals and who support a misogynist, lying scumbag of a president showing up at my band’s gigs, either. No fucking time for kind of intolerance. Get it out. Allowing it to show up is complicity, and I believe those who have a platform should use it to fight against hate.
