Green Druid Post Doom Cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song”

Doom band Green Druid, who conducted the highly scientific, peer-reviewed, academically published Weed Olympics earlier this year, are back with another VV Important series of Video Content, Will It Doom? The premise is pretty simple: the band tackles various popular non-doom tracks at rehearsal, slowing them down and dooming them up to hear how they sound. The genesis of the project seems like it came out of a true stoner moment, according to guitarist Graham Zander:

“The idea for Will It Doom – especially with the first episode – came from taking old records and playing them at slower speed.  Once we heard what ‘Immigrant Song’ sounded like at that tempo we started trying it with other riffs to see which ones translated the best.  Sometimes the results were pretty unexpected.”

For the first episode of Will It Doom the band channels their inner Led Zeppelin (there’s at least a little within us all) for a doom take on the aforementioned “Immigrant Song.” So: does it doom? I’m gonna go with “kind of.” Slowed down and fuzzed up like this it definitely sounds more doomy, but I find myself wondering if the band could’ve taken a few more creative liberties with the arrangement to make it even more so. Still, any fans of Led Zep and/or doom should enjoy this, and it’ll only take you two minutes to listen. Check it out:
