Track Premiere: Black Awakening, “Bones for Divination”

0

Fort Wayne, Indiana isn’t the first — or second, or one hundredth — city you’d think of when it comes to blackened sludge. It’s unsurprising, then, that Black Awakening got their start in southern Louisiana, where guitarist Tim Holsinger (ex-Goatwhore) and drummer Mani Drunkenstein started tinkering with riffs for the project back in 2012 before heading up north and solidifying their lineup with bassist Trevor Antonides.

“Bones of Divination” is a standalone single that follows the band’s two-song demo and Intra Nos Satanas 10″ EP, both released before the relocation. The track offers an atmosphere-tinged blast of chilly black metal mixed with molten, down-tempo sludge, at once sinfully evil and devastatingly depressing. Take a listen below, and let the song’s slippery, craggy tentacles wrap themselves around you and envelope your body in both a frosty chill and warm, swampy sunbath all at once.

Black Awakening are currently working on their full-length debut. Follow them on Facebook for updates.
