Check Out Conan’s Siqqq New Video “Volt Thrower”

0

September marks the advent of a lot of fantastic upcoming releases — new Sumac, Infernal Coil, and Voivod are sure to have me making a mess in my pants upon release, to name a few. But perhaps my most anticipated record for the month is Conan’s Existential Void Guardian, because, well, Conan.

Though we’re not going to be seeing the full album for another week or so, there’s enough content to hold us out till it drops on September 14. You can listen to the hypnotic first single “Vexxagon” over here, and after you’ve listened to that 30 times, check out Conan’s latest video for “Volt Thrower” below. It’s got some funky, artsy aesthetics that I’m absolutely loving, paring perfectly with the track, an organic jam pulled as-is from the band’s noggins. Explains frontman Jon Davis:

Volt Thrower is maybe the most ‘pop’ track on the album. Sometimes a song just happens without you trying too hard and this is it. Chris [Fielding, bass] was making a cup of tea, Johnny [King, drums] was in the live room at Skyhammer Studio, and I just said, ‘Play along to this’. We jammed the song, jammed it again, then Chris came in and we had a cup of tea, then we recorded it in one take. It’s a song about triumph over adversity – an army on the brink of defeat is able to summon the end of evil, the banisher of hatred. From the lake of frozen souls, all hail Volt Thrower. If only life was this easy.”

I wouldn’t ever have considered using the word “pop” to describe “Volt Thrower,” but I’ll leave that to your discretion. Pre-order Existential Void Guardian here, and check out Conan’s imminent tour dates with support from Conjurer (!!!) below.
