Enlarge Cool idea, but the execution... not so much.

Video: Metallica Cover Prince’s “When Doves Cry”

I haven’t seen Metallica live on their ongoing WorldWired tour, but I just learned via Loudwire that Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo have made a habit of performing cover songs by artists from the city in which they’re playing for a regular segment they call “Doodles” while James and Lars take a break. That’s pretty neat!

Hammett and Trujillo jammed on Prince’s “When Doves Cry” when the band played in Minneapolis earlier this week (September 4th), and while I love the original and I love the idea… woof, this just ain’t happening. Slop city. I couldn’t even get all the way through.

Have a watch below and feel free to disagree with my assessment, as if you needed an invitation.
