Randy Blythe is Helping with the Hurricane Florence Relief Effort

0

One could be forgiven if it feels as if Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe has helped with relief efforts for major disasters before. The guy has done a LOT for the public good outside of music, such as his participation in the protests at Standing Rock, his stance against the Chemours company dumping unregulated toxins in the drinking water supply, his outspoken support of transgender Virginia politician Danica Roem, his ongoing criticism of our current administration and his campaign to help his sister-in-law fight cancer.

So when I came upon Blythe’s Instagram post in which he reveals he’s loading up his truck with supplies and driving from his home in Richmond, VA down to Wilmington, NC (270 miles!) to assist with relief efforts for Hurricane Florence, my reaction was “Well, duh, of course he is!” despite the fact that I’m not aware of any relief efforts he’s participated in to date. We expect this kind of behavior from Randy at this point; he’s metal’s humble do-gooder, always a stand-up gentleman, always there for people, doing what he can to help others.

Here’s the caption accompanying Blythe’s post, which features a photograph shot by Blythe himself (naturally) of the Cape Fear River in Fort Fisher, NC:

“ATTN. WILMINGTON N.C./CAPE FEAR FAM, FRIENDS, SURF HOMIES! I am loading up my truck with supplies & driving down to Wilmington tomorrow to meet up with my bro @dougb11 who is deployed there as part of the FDNY D.A.R.T. (Disaster Assistance Relief Team.) I’ve checked in with most of y’all, but if I have missed someone & you are screwed on H20, food, etc. hit me up on my cell ASAP & I’ll see what I can do about getting supplies to you with the quickness. Other than that, I’ll be in the area w/D.A.R.T. for a couple of days helping distribute supplies to the hardest hit areas & doing whatever else I can do. Holler at yer boy!

“ATTN. RVA FAM & FRIENDS- Still getting intel on what they need down in Wilmington (I would guess bottled/bulk H20 & canned goods), but if you want to donate a case of water or whatever, hit me up on my cell & we’ll link before I split. Leaving RVA 11 am-ish tomorrow- I’ll post a list later after I have more info.”

By now Blythe is presumably on his way to Wilmington or already there helping out. His post was intended for certain sets of eyes — those actually able to help, and those who need help — but a public pat on the back is certainly in order for him. Thank you for doing all you do, Randy. You make metalheads proud.
