Corey Taylor Thinks That Nickelback “Are Passing the Baton to Imagine Dragons” to Be the New “Scapegoat of Rock N’ Roll”

Look. No one is arguing that Imagine Dragons aren’t fucking terrible. But are they, like, Nickelback-terrible? I’m not convinced they have the same level of cultural cache as Nickelsuck, despite being used in approximately 18,592 movie trailers and television commercials in the past few years.

But Corey Taylor thinks that Imagine Dragons are, indeed, the next great Awful-Yet-Successful Band That Everyone Hates, carrying on in the grand tradition of his pals in Nickelsuck.

The Slipknot and Stone Sour vocalist recently appeared on Jonesy’s Jukebox, a LA radio program hosted by Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones, where he concurred with Jones that Nickelback is “the scapegoat of rock n’ roll” before asserting that “they are passing the baton to Imagine Dragons right now, and I love it.”

Taylor went on to express shame that the city where he currently resides — Las Vegas — birthed the Imaginary Dragons (’cause, y’know, otherwise, Vegas would be totally classy):

“[Imagine Dragons are] awful, so that’s cool. And they’re from Vegas, so I’m gonna go home to protests. Can’t show my face in this town now. Yeah, people are slowly coming back to appreciate Nickelback and then just turning their irksome ire towards Imagine Dragons.”

Although it does seem like Nickelback are poised for some kind of cultural re-evaluation, what with Chad Kroeger and Devin Townsend being BFFs now and Mike Kroeger professing a fandom for bands like Slayer and Gojira. Having said that, I do not personally agree with Taylor’s assertion that Imagine Dragons are the new Nickelback — again, I just don’t think they’ve achieved the necessary level of fame yet, where, like, even my grandmother knows who they are and loathes them.

But then, it doesn’t matter what I think. As you know, here at MetalSucks, for something to be reality, Mr. Taylor need only wish it so.

Thus endeth the lesson.
