Video: Corey Taylor Covers Faith No More’s “From Out of Nowhere” with Anthrax’s Scott Ian

It never occurred to me until right this moment, but Corey Taylor’s voice bears a whole lot of similarity to Mike Patton’s. Corey’s is a good bit more gravelly, sure, but both exhibit that dark, not-quite-yarly-but-almost kinda thing within the same lower register. I’m sure there’s a musical term for this (are they both baritones, maybe?) but I’ll leave that classification to someone with more classical training than I.

I came to this realization while watching Corey Taylor perform Faith No More’s early classic “From Out of Nowhere” with Anthrax’s Scott Ian on guitar. The fan-filmed footage comes from Corey’s solo show in L.A. last month at which he played only cover songs with a whole host of well-known guest musicians. Looks like it was quite the rockin’ time.

Catch Corey Taylor on tour with The Slipknots this summer, at which point the band is expected to have a new album out as well.
