Full of Hell’s “Silmaril”: Heaviest Tolkien-Inspired Song Ever?

If I were to describe “Silmaril,” the new single from Full of Hell, I would say it sounds like Montezuma’s Revenge was stricken with Montezuma’s Revenge, which was, itself, stricken with Montezuma’s Revenge, which was then stuck in a barrel full of acid, lit on fire, and sent rolling down a hill. So, basically, par for the course for this band.

Which is actually kinda funny when you consider that the song takes it name from Tolkien. We are a long way from Led Zeppelin’s “The Battle of Evermore,” folks.

For their part, the band says the song “is about the upheaval of forbidden knowledge.” I’m not nearly knowledgable enough about Tolkien to know how that relates back the author’s Silmaril. Everyone feel free to nerd out and discuss in the comments section.

You can check out the song, which also features guest vocals by Paulo Paguntalan (Encenathrakh, Gath Šmânê), below. It will appear on Full of Hell’s new album, Weeping Choir, which is out May 17 on Relapse. Pre-order it here. Full of Hell will start a tour with Primitive Man and Genocide Pact right after Choir‘s release; dates are here.
