Metallica’s “Don’t Tread On Me” Sees 1500% Increase In Streams After Viral Cougar Story

The most entertaining metal story of the week has easily been the saga of Dee Gallant’s cougar encounter, which entailed her scaring the mean kitty away by blasting Metallica’s “Don’t Tread On Me.” The news got so big that James Hatfield himself had a personal phone conversation with the Canadian woman, making her a legend and prompting Metallica fans everywhere to die a little bit inside.

While she was able to personally thank Hetfield for basically saving her life, I think the band now owes Gallant some gratitude as well. YouTube streams of “Don’t Tread On Me” spiked 1500% since the story went viral, with daily views approaching the 160,000 mark. I’ll admit, I gave it a listen when I first read the story. And so did you. Don’t lie.

May as well listen again, while you’re here.
