Jinjer Debut Slappin’ New Cut “Judgement (& Punishment)”

0

I like Jinjer best when they’re less djenty and more anything else. Their new song “Judgement (& Punishment)” has plenty of both, so I suppose that leaves it somewhere in the middle for me. In general I wish bands would stop djenting entirely — the sound is really old and tired — but Jinjer are so good at all the other stuff they do that I’m willing to overlook it (and they’re adequate at the djent thing, at least). In this one, I particularly dig the reggae parts and the chorus, with Tatiana Shmailyuk’s powerful, full-throated voice leading the way.

In case it’s not clear from the above scrambled mess of words, I generally do like Jinjer a whole lot! I think they’re a fantastic band, and this song slaps.

Jinjer’s forthcoming album Macro comes out on October 25 via Napalm Records; pre-order here.
