Watch Testament’s Alex Skolnick Perform the National Anthem at an NBA Game

Every American rock guitarist has wanted to their own spin on “The Star-Spangled Banner” since Hendrix did it at Woodstock fifty years ago. Luckily (if for reasons I’ve never quite understood), the National Anthem is played at every professional sports event, and Metallica will only appear at games for their hometown teams. Which means there are plenty of opportunities to fulfill this particular rite of passage.

The latest notable metal musician to convey patriotism through the power of the electric guitar is Alex Skolnick (Testament, Metal Allegiance), who performed “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the Chicago Bulls/ Detroit Pistons game this past Friday, November 1. Needless to say, he killed it. Or he shredded it, rather.
