Mats Leven (ex-Candlemass, ex-Yngwie) Premieres Video from New Solo Project Skyblood

0

After lending his vocal talents to a plethora of bands from Candlemass to Yngwie Malmsteen, Mats Leven has decided to work on a solo project titled Skyblood and has teased us with a new single and video from the album, “The Not Forgotten.”

The song feels like a painful emotional journey through the artist’s mind. It’s slow and tribal but dark and heavy, and it has some shredding but overall it’s just a solid, groovy track. You get the feeling that Mats is mourning something from his past, especially from how the vocals echo throughout the song, both powerful and somber. The video clip feels extremely nostalgic with a mixture of old home-video style clips, modern scenes of every day mundane life, and Mats himself singing, sometimes drowning, and doing something that resembles a nervous breakdown in a dark room in between it all. A veiled gothic woman appears with the subtitle, “So What Now?” and Mats responds to the question by freaking out some more.

One thing is for sure, it’s a powerful track done in a timeless heavy metal style. If this track is anything to go by, the album itself will surely be a timeless treasure.

Skyblood comes out November 22 via Napalm Records. You can preorder it here. Watch “The Not Forgotten” below:
