The dudes in Killswitch Engage should go ahead and give themselves a big pat on the back: according to a new study The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (ICMP), KSE are the hardest working band in metal.

According to Metal Hammer, the study analyzed “factors such as the number of domestic (US) shows, the number of international shows and the total number of shows and number of countries played” in order to determine the hardest working artists in all of music — not just metal. Killswitch are the only metal band who appeared in the study’s top ten.

It’s also worth noting that the study only looked at Billboard’s top 100 artists from 2018-19… so it’s entirely possible that, I dunno, Cemetery Piss or whatever band are technically harder working, despite not being found in the study.

Here’s the top ten if you’re curious:

  1. Lewis Capaldi – 195 shows
  2. Billie Eilish – 184 shows
  3. P!nk – 167 shows
  4. Ed Sheeran – 156 shows
  5. Elton John – 150 shows
  6. Killswitch Engage – 148 shows
  7. Dua Lipa – 137 shows
  8. Khalid 136 – shows
  9. Shawn Mendes – 134 shows
  10. Portugal. The Man – 132 shows

Other metal or metal-friendly artists who appeared elsewhere in the study include Metallica at #36, Foo Fighters at #39, and Tool at #97, which is kind of hilarious given that they’re not exactly what you’d call “prolific.”
