Report: David Lee Roth to Open for Kiss on 2020 U.S. Tour

0

In case you missed it (it’s OK, we can still be friends), last month David Lee Roth and his solo band were announced as performers at the Sonic Temple festival (formerly Rock on the Range), set to take place in Columbus, OH in May, 2020. That prompted me to write a lengthy editorial about how dope it’d be if DLR decided to trot out his solo band for a full tour. (I later learned he’s doing a residency in Vegas this winter, and while that’s certainly cool it’s by no means a tour).

Well, dreams do come true… sorta. Roth will indeed be going on tour with his solo band, albeit not the way I’d hoped: he’ll be opening for Kiss on the U.S. leg of the band’s neverending farewell tour. The appearances have yet to be officially announced so we don’t know which shows DLR will participate in, but radio personality Mitch Lafon first broke the news citing “sources” (possibly within Live Nation) and posted what looks to be an official admat:

Indeed, a quick look at LiveNation.com shows David Lee Roth appearing with Kiss on several dates in February and March. As for who’s in Roth’s band these days, that’s anyone’s guess, but I’m optimistic he’s got some top-tier players involved.

So that’s certainly neat. It won’t justify the insane ticket price of seeing Kiss just to watch DLR’s patented kick flips for half an hour, nor will it be the full set of his solo classics that my body and mind so desperately crave, but if someone offers me a free ticket, sweet, I’m there!
