Parkway Drive Donated $34,000 to Australian Wildfire Relief

The metal community has stepped up bigtime to help relief efforts for the wildfires in Australia, which continue to burn on with minimal signs of slowing down. MetallicaThe Ghost InsideNe Obliviscaris and Fit For an Autopsy are just a few of the high-profile bands who have donated money and driven awareness towards relief efforts.

One of Australia’s best-known metal exports, Parkway Drive, recently launched a GoFundMe to help with bushfire relief, and they kicked off the campaign with a massive donation of their own: $50,000 AUD (roughly $34,000 USD). Giving such a large amount couldn’t have come easily for the band, but their generosity is having the desired of effect of encouraging others to chip in as well, with the current GoFundMe tally having reached nearly $89,000 AUD as of press time (over $61,000 USD).

Frontman Winston McCall posted a video to Parkway Drive’s Facebook announcing the fundraiser and asking the band’s fans to help:

“We are currently in the midst of a natural disaster which has been playing out for a couple of months now and has basically annihilated an incredible amount of our country.

“For all the people at home who have been affected by this, our hearts and our thoughts are with you. We’ve toured so much of this country and so much of the information I see coming across my screen has been from places I’m familiar with – and it really is heartbreaking to see what’s happening.

“So we thought we would start up a fund to do what we can and give people within the metal community a place to donate if they have any spare change. The metal community has always got behind causes in such an amazing way and has such a massive heart, that I thought we’d try and give direction to that.

“I know everyone isn’t in the position to donate and that’s fine, so Parkway Drive is going to start it off with $50,000.”

You can, and should, donate right here. No amount is too small! Proceeds will be split evenly between WIRES, an organization devoted to helping out all the animals devastated by the fires, and Red Cross Australia.
