Devin Townsend promised to start playing Strapping Young Lad material for the first time in over a decade during his 2020 tour, and Devin Townsend is a man of his word. Thus, he did, indeed, break out a whole lotta SYL jams during his recent appearances on the 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise. That includes the live debut of “Almost Again,” from 2006’s The New Black.

You can watch fan-filmed video of those performances, as well as some non-SYL shit, below. His current, “heavy” backing band includes guitarist Wes Hauch (Alluvial, ex-The Faceless, ex-Black Crown Initiate), drummer Dirk Verbeuren (Megadeth, ex-Soilwork), and bassist Kyle Konkiel (Bad Wolves).

You can see Townsend play at least some of these SYL classics when he hits the road for a tour of North America starting next month. Get dates and tickets here.
