Tool Win Best Metal Performance Grammy Award for “7empest”
As widely expected, Tool have picked up a Grammy in the Best Metal Performance category for the song “7empest” from their 13-years-in-the-making album, Fear Inoculum.
This is Tool’s second win the category following their awards in 1997 for “Ænema” and in 2001 for “Schism,” and third Grammy overall, picking one up in the Best Recording Package category for 10,000 Days in 2006. They were also nominated for Best Recording Package in 1996 with Ænema, Best Music Video in 1997 with “Stinkfist,” Best Hard Rock Performance in 2006 for “Vicarious” and Best Hard Rock Performance in 2007 for “The Pot.”
Tool beat out Killswitch Engage’s “Unleashed,” Death Angel’s “Humanicide,” Candlemass & Tony Iommi’s “Astorolus – The Great Octopus” and I Prevail’s “Bow Down.”
The award was announced in a special pre-ceremony broadcast on Grammy.com before the main event airs on CBS tonight. Drummer Danny Carey and bassist Justin Chancellor accepted the award on stage, with Carey including late Rush drummer Neil Peart in his list of thank yous.
Earlier in the evening in rock-related awards, Gary Clark Jr. won both Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance for “This Land,” Cage the Elephant won Best Rock Album with Social Cues, and Chris Cornell won Best Recording Package with his self-titled posthumous release.
