Code Orange Unveil Heavy New Track, “Swallowing the Rabbit Whole”

Sources close to Code Orange have told me that “Underneath,” the first single from their new album of the same name, released last month, is not indicative of the album as a whole. That track’s new-school industrial vibe is an outlier, they say, while the rest of the album is closer to the downtuned, hardcore-inspired sludge grooves that fans have come to expect from Code Orange.

The band has now released the album’s next single, “Swallowing the Rabbit Whole,” and my conclusion regarding the above assertion is that the operative word is “closer.” The track is definitely more in line with classic Code Orange, and it’s a bruiser, to be sure, but it’s still got plenty of flourishes of electronics and noise. IMO that’s a good thing — we like when bands progress and change it up! — but it will undoubtedly make some of the band’s core fans angry, because metalheads on the whole are conservative, stuck in their ways and hate change.
