Gojira’s Mario Duplantier Posts New Drum Solo Video Inspired by New York City

0

While the “will they or won’t they” conversation surrounding a new Gojira album continues to swirl (most signs point to yes), drummer Mario Duplantier has released another pro-shot video of his second original drum composition in as many months, following “Minotaur” back in January.

The new song, entitled “The City,” sees Duplantier utilize a variety of auxiliary percussion instruments not in his usual arsenal to portray the sounds of New York City, his adopted home of the last several years. And I have to say… I feel it! There’s something about the rhythms Mario’s chosen, and the construction of the track, that gets right to the heart of organized chaos that is the paradox of New York.

In a post to his personal Instagram account, Mario offered a quick poem about the track:

“It’s a giant monster made of wood and steel,
gold and dirt,
ice and storms,
As fast as light, its movements, animated by an unspeakable and superb energy, create various fascinating sounds.
The monster will destroy you on its path if you are not watchful
You may have to reinforce yourself to survive The City.”

Have a watch below. Gojira will tour with Deftones and Poppy this summer; dates underneath the video.
