Buzz Osborne (Melvins) Announces Solo Album + Tour, Streams Single Featuring Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle)

I’m convinced Buzz Osborne was born with a medical malformity that allows him to subsist without sleep. ‘Cause as if the constant release of new Melvins material, and touring in support of that material, somehow didn’t satiate King Buzzo’s creative desires, he has now announced that he’ll release his second solo album, Gift of Sacrifice, on on May 15 via Ipecac Recordings. All nine songs on the album include Mr. Bungle/ Tomahawk bassist Trevor Dunn, who will also join The Man With the Best Hair in Metal for a lengthy tour that will kick off the same week as Gift‘s release and run all the way through early July. Shit, I feel like I need a nap just thinking about a tour that long, and I’m eighteen years younger than Buzz.

ANYWAY, the first single from Gift, “Science in Modern America,” is pretty friggin’ great. It’s a mostly acoustic song that feels kinda like folk music if folk music was super dark and cynical instead of all Kumbaya-y. I’m way into it.

Listen to “Science in Modern America” at the bottom of this post, and pre-order Gift of Sacrifice here. Dates for the tour are below; tickets are on-sale this Friday, Feb. 28 at 10 am local time.
