Tool’s Stage Crew Gives a Behind-the-Scenes Peak at Their Laser, Light and Video Production

0

If you’ve seen Tool live before, you know it’s an extravagant experience. The band is well-known for the visual assault on the senses the utilize to intensify their performance, and now their production team has revealed some behind-the-scenes information about the lights, lasers and video production on the upcoming Fear Inoculum run to the folks at PLSN.com.

Frontman Maynard James Keenan has long been known for performing shrouded in darkness, but on this tour he decided he wanted to change that up. Mark “Junior” Jacobson, who’s a part of Tool’s lighting crew, shared:

“After 18 years of requesting no light, the timing this time around just felt right to start lighting Maynard. He has come to me and requested certain times that he wishes to be lit. I think if he is expecting the light to come on, it’s fine. We try not to surprise him and throw him off balance.”

Breckinridge Haggerty, who’s on the video crew, revealed the absolutely staggering amount of set cues that go into a Tool show. In just one song, “Pneuma,” there are 42 video cues, 70 lighting cues and 20 laser cues throughout the course of the 12-minute epic. Needless to say, his fingers must be very tired after every gig.
