Video: Kiss Pay Tribute to Kobe Bryant

0

Kiss took time out of their set last night (March 4) at Los Angeles’ Staples Center to pay tribute to Kobe Bryant (the Staples Center is, of course, the home of the Los Angeles Lakers, the team for which Kobe played for twenty years). The legendary basketball star died in a helicopter crash in California in January, along with his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, and seven other people. He was only 41 years old. Since then, a multitude of metal musicians have shared homages to the late athletic titan.

Adorned in a Lakers jersey, vocalist/guitarist Paul Stanley said the following before Kiss played their song “Do You Love Me“:

“We’re in the house that Kobe built. None of us would be here if this place wasn’t really like a memorial to somebody who was so much more than a basketball player, somebody who’s been a role model. And tonight, I think we dedicate this show not only to Kobe and his daughter Gigi, but to all the people who perished on that helicopter. So, let’s reach back to something from ‘Destroyer’. This song says, ‘Do You Love Me’.”

You can watch fan-filmed video of Stanley’s speech, and the ensuring performance of “Do You Love Me,” below.
