The Coronavirus Quarantine Silver Lining: Dave Davidson Will Now Write a New Revocation Album

It’s hard to find a bright side to the current COVID-19 pandemic. Most of us are (hopefully) practicing social distancing, which means we’re either experiencing, or are on the verge of experiencing, some form of cabin fever. And even if we could go out, it’s not like there’s anything to do, because pretty much everything is closed. Many of us are also feeling a financial pinch as a result. And that’s to say nothing of the fact that thousands of people around the world are sick and dying, and that number is only going to go up before this is all over. And it’s not even like the pandemic will end and everything will return to normal overnight; we’re going to feel the effects of this thing for months, if not years, to come. It’s just an all-around shitty situation.

Still, if there is a silver lining to this forced not-quite-a-staycation, it’s that Revocation frontman Dave Davidson has announced plans to use the time to write the new Revocation album.

So. That’s something.

It would not be all that shocking if other musicians did the same as Davidson (only for their own bands, obviously — it would be weird if everyone just started writing Revocation records). Home recording technology being what it is these days, some of them may even be able to move fast enough to get out new releases while we’re all still stuck inside, longing for the halcyon days of B.O.-filled venues and fellow concertgoers who spend more time looking at their phone than watching the show. Paradoxically, the pandemic could also prevent certain musicians from being able to create new music for the foreseeable future. If this thing means there’s no new Disturbed album for a few years, that would be okay, too.
