This Chelsea Wolfe-Led Cover of Ozzy’s “Crazy Train” Is Everything

We here at MetalSucks are always rooting for covers that are kinda-sorta recognizable as the original song but also put their own distinct spin on the material, because, really, what the sweet fucking fuck is the point of a rote recreation? It’s like, “Oh, cool, this reminds me how much I like ‘Blinded by Fear.’ Thanks, gang.” It’s just kinda nonsensical.

And y’know what cover absolutely does NOT fall into that trap? This stunning new take on Ozzy Osbourne’s “Crazy Train.” Created for the metal-themed talkshow Two Minutes to Late Night, the cover is performed by Chelsea Wolfe, Stephen Brodsky (Cave In, Mutoid Man, Old Man Gloom), Liam Wilson (Azusa, Dillinger Escape Plan), Urian V. Hackney (Rough Francis), Two Minutes host Gwarsenio Hall, and Ben Chisholm, the man Decibel called “Chelsea Wolfe’s secret weapon.” You can easily tell it’s “Crazy Train” right from the moment it begins, even as it channels John Carpenter’s Halloween theme and Ghost-style occult rock. I’ve listened to it three times already. If you don’t love it as much as I do, you are wrong.

Enjoy:
