Metallica Perform Reimagined, Semi-Acoustic “Blackened” From Quarantine

0

Earlier this week, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich participated in an hour-long livestreamed video chat with Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff. During that discussion, Ulrich revealed that while all four members of the band are currently in different states, they had been communicating via Zoom calls, were working to figure a way to put on a concert for fans while under quarantine, and were even considering recording new material during this forced spate of downtime.

Now the band has done both of those things — sort of — by releasing a video in which they debut a reimagined, stripped-down version of “Blackened,” the classic opening track from 1988’s …And Justice for All. This new iteration of the song seems destined to be controversial; while some fans will undoubtedly appreciate it, others may find it a little too Load-y for their tastes.
