Classic Concert of the Day: The Chasm, Milwaukee Metal Fest, 1999

You’re all cooped up. We’re all cooped up. Everyone’s friggin’ cooped up! You’re scrolling through our social feeds, texting with friends, eating, drinking coffee, watching TV, scrolling through our social feeds again, eating again, playing that dumb mobile game you downloaded from an Instagram ad and can’t stop playing, eating again, chatting with friends on a Zoom call, scrolling through our social feeds again, all while worrying about where your next paycheck is gonna come from. These are tough times, people.

To help pass the time, we’ll be periodically sharing a classic metal concert. Watch some of it, watch all of it, watch only one song… we don’t care! As it long as it provides you with a bit of entertainment.

Feliz Cinco de Mayo! Today is usually a day for large-scale celebrations… but, of course, like everything right now, that’s not really happening because of coronavirus. For most of us, Cinco de Mayo fiestas will be limited to Mexican delivery and frozen margaritas. Eso es decepcionante!

So here’s another way you can take part in a jubilation without violating the necessities of social distancing: with this video of a 1999 Milwaukee Metal Fest set by The Chasm, the death metal band that was formed in Mexico City nearly thirty years ago (although they’ve since relocated to Chicago). This band has never really gotten enough love from the metal media — ourselves included! — and Cinco de Mayo is an excellent occasion on which to remedy that.

Check out the thirty-minute set below! Al mal tiempo, buena cara!!!
