Enuff Z’Nuff, Enuff Z’Nuff

Enuff Z’Nuff are still a thing, and they have a new album called Brainwashed Generation coming out, and they’ve released the first single from that album, “Fatal Distraction,” and I had no intention of covering it, but my RSS feed is empty and I’ve got four kids to feed, so here we are.

Look: “Fatal Distraction” is not the worst song I’ve ever heard. It’s not even the worst Enuff Z’Nuff song I’ve ever heard. The lyrics are pretty ridiculous, though, especially because there are multiple examples of frontman Chip Z’Nuff rhyming a word with itself (e.g., “I met a pretty lady/ Who should not be called ‘a lady'”)… in fact, in the second verse, the first three lines all end with the word “time,” as though poor Chip didn’t even have access to a rhyming dictionary. Still, it’s not funny enough to warrant a listen just for the sake of comedy. I guess, in a weird way, “Fatal Distraction” is the worst of all possible worlds: it’s fine.

If you’re curious, you can check out “Fatal Distraction” below. Brainwashed Generation comes July 10 on Frontiers, and can be pre-ordered here. It features guest appearances by original Enuff Z’Nuff frontman/ guitarist Donnie Vie (they seriously couldn’t get him back for the entire album?), as well as… Mike fucking Portnoy?!?! Seriously? How the shit did he get roped into this? Did he lose a bet or something?
