Metal All-Star Group Covers “The Time of My Life” from Dirty Dancing

Have you been following At the Movies, the quarantine-borne band comprised of metal royalty devoted solely to covering songs from classic ’80s films? If not, you should be! So far they’ve given us “No Easy Way Out” from Rocky IV, “Maniac” from Flashdance and the theme song from the iconic 1985 film St. Elmo’s Fire to keep us nostalgically entertained in these trying times.

In keeping with their promise to release one new cover every week, the group — which features members of Soilwork, King Diamond, Hammerfall, Mercenary and more — return this week with perhaps their best entry yet, “The Time of My Life” from Dirty Dancing. Not only is this the most iconic track they’ve tackled so far, but it’s also the one with which they’ve taken the biggest artistic liberties. And what’s more, Linnéa Vikström Egg, whose work I’m not familiar with (her most notable contribution to the metal world were some guest vocals for Therion), puts on a positively dazzling performance here that makes the track. Jam it below!

Here’s the full lineup:

Björn Speed Strid (Soilwork, The Night Flight Orchestra): vocals
Linnéa Vikström Egg (QFT): vocals
Chris Laney (Randy Piper’s Animal, Zan Clan): guitars, vocals
Allan Sørensen (Royal Hunt, Pretty Maids): drums
Morten Sandager (Mercenary, Pretty Maids): keyboards
Pontus Egberg (King Diamond): bass
Pontus Norgren (Hammerfall): guitar solo
