Poppy Releases Cover of Pokémon Theme Song

0

Dance pop-turned-metal star Poppy has released a cover of the iconic theme song from Pokémon that will surely delight anyone who was attempting to catch ’em all during the series’ 1999 heyday.

The track’s release was accompanied by a statement from Poppy about her former partner and producer, Titanic Sinclair, with whom she split late last year amidst accusations of long-term emotional abuse. The statement makes reference to a series of recent videos in which Poppy has been highlighting her makeup routine, and reads as follows:

“My ex-boyfriend would always tell me I looked ugly without make-up on and I should never be seen without it. Making these make-up videos has not only helped me feel more comfortable in my skin, but I want to encourage other people that are constantly put down in a similar way that it’s ok to love yourself and your skin.

“That person is releasing photos of me without make-up (and blonde hair) plus very personal demos that only he has. This is an attempt to make me feel small, insecure and exposed. Those tactics aren’t going to work. I am proud of my bare face and I am happy I no longer feel the way I did. I chose not to release those demos for personal reasons. I no longer have that choice as he has taken it from me, so hope you enjoy. Love all my fans and thank you for your support.”

Check out the cover below. I was just a bit too old for the Pokémon craze when it hit so I’m not familiar with the original tune, but I can see why it caught on — it’s hella catchy — and Poppy’s voice is perfect for it.

Poppy’s European / U.K. tour set for this spring was rescheduled to November and December, but it remains to be seen if that will happen.
