Mantar Announce ’90s Cover Album, Stream Mazzy Star Song

With ’90s nostalgia current in full effect, there’s no better time to release ’90s covers album. And, oh hey wouldn’t ya know it, that’s exactly what Germany’s Mantar are doing!

The group have announced that they’ll release a ’90s covers EP, Grungetown Heroes II, June 26th on LP/Digital via Brutal Panda Records (there is not, as far as I can tell, a Grungetown Heroes I). It’ll feature the duo’s takes on tracks by Sonic Youth, L7, The Jesus Lizard, 7 Year Bitch, Babes in Toyland, and Mazzy Star… specifically, Mazzy Star’s “Ghost Highway,” which was released thirty years ago tomorrow as part of that group’s debut offering, She Hangs Brightly.

Interestingly, Mantar are the second metal band in recent memory to cover Mazzy Star: Binary Code did “Fade Into You” this past December. I bet Hope Sandoval never saw this comin’!

You can check out Mantar Star/ Mazzy Mantar’s “Ghost Highway” below, and pre-order Grungetown Heroes II here.
