In terms of deeply-insignificant things that seriously bum me out (e.g., not institutional racism, a mass pandemic, keeping children in cages, etc.), few hurt like hearing a new song by an artist I love and not loving it. Because I get SO GODDAMN EXCITED!!!, and then I hear the song and it’s like, “Oh.” It’s the opposite experience of going into a track with zero expectations then having those expectations surpassed.

Alas, such is the case with “Because of You,” the new song by Justin Broadrick’s Jesu. This isn’t the the bleak, depressing, guitar-heavy shoegaze I want from Jesu! It’s a largely atonal electronic experiment that doesn’t even give me the slightest urge to get a prescription for Paxil. I dunno. It’s just not for me.

Of course, Broadrick is under no obligation to do anything for anyone but himself, and I’m not fallible. So you may disagree with me!

Listen to “Because of You” below and find out. The song will appear Jesu’s new EP, Never, which Lambgoat says will be out next month. In the meantime, you can listenbuy the here.
