Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda Will Release an Instrumental Album, Listen to Three Tracks Now

0

Linkin Park rapper/keyboardist/guitarist/songwriter Mike Shinoda has announced that he will be releasing Dropped Flames Vol 1, an instrumental album inspired by his live Twitch streams, during which he writes songs in real time.

Three tracks from the album are now available, and they sound kinda like the electronic elements of Linkin Park mixed with the chilled out lounge vibes of Massive Attack and a dollop of synthwave retro-futurism. They’re good! I’m enjoying these considerably more than I ever did Linkin Park’s music.

Shinoda commented on the offering:

“‘Dropped Frames is just as much about the live channel as it is about the ‘album.’ The collection of songs is a highlight reel of the tracks I make on the channel, but a big part of the experience is the stream itself. When I start, I usually have very little idea of where it will go. What comes out is a product of the viewers’ suggestions, my spur-of-the-moment ideas, and whatever inexplicable magic is floating in between.”

You can check out three of the tracks below, with the full album arriving on Friday, July 10.

Folliwing Chester Bennington’s tragic suicide three summers ago, Shinoda said he would be open to the idea of reviving Linkin Park if it happens in the right way.
