Lollapalooza Co-Founder and Talent Agent Doesn’t Think Concerts Will Return Before 2022

Marc Geiger, the co-founder of Lollapalooza and former global head of music for William Morris Entertainment, has predicted that concerts won’t return in full force until 2022.

Geiger made the prognosis on the podcast of industry pundit Bob Lefsetz (as transcribed by Lambgoat):

“It’s going to take that long before, what I call, the germaphobic economy is slowly killed off and replaced by the claustrophobia economy — that’s when people want to get out and go out to dinner and have their lives, go to festivals and shows.”

Geiger went on to say that “super-spreader events — sports, shows, festivals, etc. — aren’t going to do too well when the virus is this present,” adding that anyone who tries to stage a show in the midst of the pandemic faces “infinite liability.” Put another way: promoters and venues could be sued into oblivion for enabling the spread of COVID-19. Naturally, that means promoters and venues won’t wanna take the risk of putting on a show.
