A couple of years back, I met a gentlemen who said Sepultura’s “Roots Bloody Roots” was his favorite song. Only problem was, he seemed to be under the impression that title and chorus were, in fact, “Roots, Blood and Roots.” Granted, English was not this man’s first language. Still. He had the phrase “Roots, Blood and Roots” tattooed on him. He told me he’d registered the domain rootsbloodandroots.com for a future business. I simply did not have the heart to tell him about his error.

What does this have to do with The O’Keefe Music Foundation’s latest kids-lead cover, which tackles the Sepultura anthem? Nothing. I just can’t hear this song anymore without thinking of that poor dude.

You can watch the kids cover below. The line-up for the song is:

Hello Kitty Drums / Owen / Age 8
Vocals / Colt Shedden / Age 10
Rhythm Guitar / Dominic / Age 14
Bass / Syd Smith / Age 15
Lead Guitar / Connor Meintel / Age 15

If you’re not familiar with The O’Keefe Music Foundation, I cannot recommend enough that you get lost in their back catalogue, which includes covers of tracks by DanzigSlipknotClutchTool, and White Zombie, amongst others. They’re probably doing as much as or more than anyone to ensure that metal lives on in the coming decades. I don’t believe in God, but this is, euphemistically speaking, God’s work.

Enjoy:
