Watch: 10-Year-Old Faces Dave Grohl in a Drum Battle!

0

Ten-year-old Nandi Bushell, whose drum videos we’ve covered before, posted a cover of Foo Fighters’ “Everlong” earlier this week — an incredibly difficult song to execute on drums — along with a message to Dave Grohl himself: “Mr. Grohl I would love to have a drum battle with you! I LOVE ‘Everlong’ it’s really hard to play as it’s so fast but so much FUN!!!”

Dave caught wind of the performance and Nandi’s challenge, and issued a response:

“I haven’t played that song since the day I recorded it in 1997. Our drummer Taylor Hawkins plays ‘Everlong’ for us every single night. But Nandi, in the last week, I’ve gotten at least 100 texts from people all over the world saying, ‘This girl is challenging you to a drum-off, what are you gonna do?’ Now look I’ve seen all your videos, I’ve seen you on TV. You’re an incredible drummer. I’m really flattered that you’ve picked some of my songs to do for your videos and you’ve done them all perfectly.”

Naturally, Grohl then posted a video of him performing the track on drums for the first in 23 years… using his daughter’s drumset:

Nandi was over the moon Dave had not only acknowledged her performance but gone so far with it, issuing a response of her own:

“This is UNREAL! I can’t believe Dave Grohl actually accepted my drum battle, Thank you! Now it’s my turn to learn ‘dead end friends’ by @crookedvultures! I am going to checkmate this one too! Thank you Harper for lending your Dad the kit!”

A couple of days later, Bushell stayed true to her word, posting a full drum cover of “Dead End Friends,” with a performance from Grohl cut in as well:

Grohl conceded defeat in the drum battle, saying “Ok, @Nandi_Bushell ……you win round one….but it ain’t over yet! Buckle up, cuz I have something special in mind…”

We await what’s next!
